On Sunday I had the chance to interview and write a story on Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Ledecky.
At 15, she crushed the competition in the 800-meter freestyle en route to an American Record, missing the World Record by a half second.
Her grandparents live here in Williston, where she trains a few times a year.
Most surprising about Katie was how well-spoken and adult-like she was at that age. She’s a good speaker, better than many of the students I taught at NIU. Also impressive was just her good nature.
Glad to see a young athlete seems to have the path of being a role model.
I’ll be paying some extra attention the World Championships in Barcelona this summer and Rio in 2016 in hopes that she qualifies and wins again.
